HKS SLD English Instructions

Well it has been a while since an update with Christmas, new years, my sons birthday and the likes. Well over that period i have obtained a HKS SLD (speed limit defencer [gringrish for defender i'm guessing]) as my data logging from Phillip Island track day showed 10 seconds on the speed limiter and i think a little bit of time can be made up will its removal. So now the time has come to fit it.

Tools required are screw driver no2, side cutters, wire strippers and terminal crimpers.

Firstly i set the dip switches as per the first photo.

Secondly the SLD has 5 wires, for the install to a BNR32 we will only require 4.
Red = 12v ignition (constant while cranking)
Black = Ground
White = From VSS (vehicle speed sensor)
Yellow = To ECU VSS pin.
Blue = Unused

Passenger side scuff plate
Now we know what wire is for what, where do they go? Well for this install i followed HKS recommendations. At this point we need access to the ECU,  Firstly pull off the passenger scuff plate trim by removing the 5 scrivets, followed by the kick panel, 1 scrivet and 2 screws .

Pin out. S=VSS, B=12v, E=Ground
 Behind the kick panel we have the ECU. Now comes the fun bits. Remove the ECU, 2 screws, and pull it out for easier access to the wiring. It was at this point that i found some fresh evidence that my standardish GTR hasn't always been tame with plenty of evidence of hacking into the ECU loom. I know found the yellow and green VSS wire (the S in the pin out photo or pin 53 for those with pinouts) cut it around 40mm from the plug, crimped on the terminals supplied with the SLD. Male terminal on the ECU side, Female on remaining. Repeat for Power, Pin "B" in the photo above aka pin 59 which is a black and white wire. Believe it or not we do the same step for the remaining ground. Pin "E" in photo aka pin 60 and the wire is black.
A little something like this
With the beautiful wiring mess finished, is time to start reassembling. I just put it back in reverse order poking the HKS SLD out the bottom of the trim so i could mount it on the kick panel to enhance the interior decor from the driving position as well as some "maximum respect". Top speed runs here we come!
HKS SLD = MAXIMUM RESPECT

    1. Yeah with the limiter now properly defended against decent top speeds will be attainable without the fear of speed limits :$
